I'm sure all of us have been on one side: wanting to save someone from making a mistake or being the one held by others or by fear. But isn't failure what life is about? We need to try things, we need to learn from our mistakes, and we need to fail to gain experience.
I've been thinking about this painting ever since I read the lyrics of "Like Crazy"
"Don't wake me, I wanna stay in this dream..." Don't make your loved ones quit their dreams just because you fear they'll fail. Let them fail. Help them then. Be present, and support.
Because sometimes preventing someone from achieving their dream is worse than seeing them lose. Don't let them lose their life...
